Women in the Workforce: Join LADWP

This May, LADWP held our first ever Women’s Career and Wellness Expo, where students from around Los Angeles, members of the community and current LADWP employees were able to learn about potential careers for women with LADWP. A wide variety of career opportunities were available, ranging from positions in STEM, to positions in the field. At the Expo, a special focus was placed on highlighting non-traditional careers for women including:

Supporting Workforce Development in the Eastern Sierra

In March, the Recruitment Services, Communications and Corporate Strategy, and Aqueduct divisions hosted the spring Owens Valley virtual job fair to attract qualified employees to apply for LADWP jobs in the Eastern Sierra. At each job fair, the team highlights an upcoming job opening and invites local employees to share their experiences working and living in the area. Last month, the participants heard from Senior Administrative Clerk Julianne Burg and Senior Storekeeper Gerado Castillo.

For the fourth consecutive year, LADWP is partnering with the Inyo County Office of Education (ICOE) for the Certified Trade Education Scholarship Program for graduating high school students in Inyo County. This year, the scholarship program was increased from $10,000 to $20,000, awarding five recipients $4,000 each to help with the costs of educational materials, tools and tuition. LADWP and ICOE are working together to foster the redesigning of career paths to accommodate more training, apprenticeships and mentorships to help close the skills gap in the areas of technical education.
