Load Dispatcher Familiarization Training Begins

On March 29, Power System Operations conducted the first of six sessions designed to familiarize employees and members of the public on the skills, training and knowledge required to become an electrical Load Dispatcher, one of the most critical jobs at LADWP. Much like air traffic controllers dealing with aircraft, Load Dispatchers monitor the supply and demand of electricity across our city and help route it to where it’s needed the most. With trainees starting at $119,141 and permanent positions starting at $136,555, the Load Dispatcher position is highly coveted, but at the same time, somewhat of a mystery to the general public.

There’s a great deal of information Load Dispatchers need to know for working in our high tempo of operations, especially with the variable weather we’ve been experiencing.”

Classes are offered twice a year and are designed to increase knowledge and awareness of Power System operations, LADWP’s Energy Control Center (ECC), Load Dispatcher day-to-day tasks, duties and position requirements.
